We are looking at how a soul truth – a vitality – devolves downward into something limited and concrete, while remaining a Godly reality – an essential Godly truth.

At a higher level life is invulnerable. Life as manifest in the body is vulnerable and needs protection.

Yet this limited element of life is real. And it needs guarding. And for this reason there are rules of the road to avoid collisions... this is the life principle at a much lower level.

The Rebbe is pointing out something similar in chochmah...

Any sechel is open to being diverted to the left or right... so for example the rules of the road can be changed to allow emergency vehicles to proceed. This is because sechel is a derivative of something much higher than sechel.

Sechel is identified in the logic. But the essence is with the spirit behind the logic. It is logical to take turns in crossing an intersection. The spirit behind this is the 'right to be there'. The restraint of taking turns is just circumstantial...

Sechel is the light of the soul, that carries with it the original reality, even down to the lowest level where it is 'taam ve spharah'.

- Calvin Coolidge at sesquicentennial of the Declaration of Independence

  1. Kudos to Mr. Coolidge. If he only knew where his idea came from maybe Jews would have been protected by law.
