We are looking at the 7 names of God. Each name refers to a sphirah – to the vessel of a sphirah. The names reference the Creator Himself. And He is the light and life of the vessels.

The Rebbe says we cannot say the names refer to the vessels themselves, since they refer to Him Himself.

So we're saying the elements/sphirot of kindness, severity, etc refer to God Himself?

A sechel can say, 'this is how it should be done', but the level of sechel/mind cannot effectuate the deed. Sechel/mind is an internal reality. Action which is external does not come directly from the sechel/mind at all.

There is a sense that 'I and you' are one, and are in the same reality, and I act because I am part of this reality and want to be part of it. This is where the level of keilim originate.

These names refer to God Himself, since He is the One who relates everything. 'You bind them and unite them. Without You there is no unity in the higher worlds or the lower world'. All unity is due to You.
