The sun is not as it appears to be.

It continues to burn, undiminished for 1000’s of years.

It is not a ball of fire.  It is an essence of brightness.  This is what He created.  It has a true presence in the world.  It has a stake in the world in a certain sense, although it is inanimate.

Genesis 1:14 And God said, "Let there be luminaries in the expanse of the heavens, to separate between the day and between the night, and they shall be for signs and for appointed seasons and for days and years.

and verse 15 

And they shall be for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens to shed light upon the earth." And it was so.		טווְהָי֤וּ לִמְאוֹרֹת֙ בִּרְקִ֣יעַ הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם לְהָאִ֖יר עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַֽיְהִי־כֵֽן:
Rashi: And they shall be for luminaries: In addition, they will serve in this function, viz. to shed light upon the world.

ie The sun will primarily “separate between the day and between the night, and they shall be for signs and for appointed seasons and for days and years.”  The sun is defining what the world is.  And along with that brings brightness - the brightness is almost secondary.

The sun shines automatically.  The light of the soul is volitional.  

The soul can reveal and conceal its qualities.  The soul is a living entity that has a stake in what it is doing.  The sun is inanimate.

The soul is not compelled to reveal itself.  It can conceal its expression.

The soul is bounded by the body.  When a soul is enlivening a body it is not available to enliven another body.  

The soul [unlike the sun] does not remain aloof - it becomes involved in the body…  

The sun does not have a concealed state.  It was created in a state of revelation.  The soul by contrast can conceal its faculties.

The soul gives life to the body directly and effortlessly.  In the present of the soul, the body comes to life.

On the level of the specific functions of the body - sight and mind etc -  both the soul and the body have to have proper preparation so they will fit together.  

The soul gives life like light [not like flow].  The divine element is life, not existence.
