The revelation of the soul is volitional. 

Yet, still it is effortless. 

From the perspective of the soul it is effortless, yet it gives into a divine environment.  If there is an absence of divine meaning, it will not reveal its light.

This is just like man in general.  He needs a fundamental reality in which to live and thrive.  He builds a house on earth among people - not on Mars.  He needs the Godly truth in order to function.

If that truth is missing, he cannot function.
