The question: there are the 10 hidden sphirot contained in their Source, and they are the means by which the world can be created. So how can these lights be affected by the tzimtzum/contraction.

How are the lights affected and reduced so they can allow for the creation of the world?

We had two metaphors for this process – the single letter in a word, and secondly the way a mentor gives his influence to the student.

In a home you have various furnishings. The chair from the home can be on the street, but it is fundamentally different. On the street the light of 'home' is lost. In the home the chair is a small representation of the light of the home.

This is like sechel – from one part the overall basis can be sensed.

So too above – the way the sphira of chochmah is brought out means it becomes know the intent of the sphirot in general.

Due to the creation of the world by 10 sphirot we can know something of Him from His creation. The creation is not severed from the Creator. You can trace it back to Him. The 10 sphirot are ohr pnimi.
