The revelation of the soul is volitional.
Yet, still it is effortless.

The sun is not as it appears to be.
It continues to burn, undiminished for 1000’s of years.
It is not a ball of fire.It is an essence of brightness.This is what He created.It has a true presence in the world.It has a stake in the world in a certain sense, although it is inanimate.
Genesis 1:14 And God said, "Let there be luminaries in the expanse of the heavens, to separate between the day and between the night, and they shall be for signs and for appointed seasons and for days and years.

And they shall be for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens to shed light upon the earth." And it was so.

The soul gives life to the body directly and effortlessly.In the present of the soul, the body comes to life.
On the level of the specific functions of the body - sight and mind etc -both the soul and the body have to have proper preparation so they will fit together.

Sechel/mind is rooted in soul, not in worldly experience.
It enters the body in a state unlike the way it is in the soul.
And the body/brain has to be refined enough to receive the sechel/mind.
The brain has to dissociate from the physical and perceived reality from a living perspective.It rises above the body perspective to the soul perspective.
The sechel/mind reveals how the soul thinks of things.
God blew into your nostrils a breath of life - the soul was inserted via a conduit, so that you should be aware that he has been given something.
You do feel the soul coming into the body.You do not feel the way the soul reduces the mind/sechel so it will fit the brain.

Light comes effortlessly from the soul and enlivens the body.It is a gift from the essence.The soul gives a quality of its own to the body.
There’s another phase to this - faculties imbued into particular organs [which serve as vessels]. For example the faculty of sight imbued into the eye.
This is called a real inner light [ohr pnimi mamash] - a response to the organ itself.
When sechel/mind dawns on one, he realizes: “there’s something beyond myself and my needs and experiences.” This is like the experience of sight - ‘it is real, not because i experience it, but since it is real unto itself…’

The light reveals that, ‘No, this world is not just a physical world.It is here because God wants it to be’.

The light has a superiority.
This is due to its representation of the luminary itself.It brings the luminary into proximity with the recipient.
By virtue of its presence the luminary gives off light.There are no additional steps.
