A teacher transmits what he knows.  A mentor/mashpia gives of himself.  He gives of his life - of his sense of truth - of what he has lived through.

We are going to look at the difference between light [ohr] and flow [shefa].

The kabbalasits speak from the perspective of Godliness and they mostly use the word ‘light’.  The Jewish philosophers tend to use the word ‘flow’.

Both indicate input from a source.  The word flow [shefa] - like water that flows - points to an identifiable element that is given from the mentor to the recipient.  Like the giving of a coin from the wealthy to the poor.

The flow - shefa is due to the recipients’s position, not the giver’s position.

A real mentor gives from who he is.  He gives over what he has lived through - he indicates not information, but actual personal terms.

‘Without beginning’ is a deep concept.  What in the world has no beginning?  And if something has no beginning what does it stand for?

God blew your soul into you.  It is not a created entity.  Your soul is ‘of Himself’.  The soul/neshamah is an essence [atzmi].  Thus there is no limit to what the soul can reach, and to what it can comprehend.

And when we think about Godliness it is drawn from above - it is not based on experience here below in the world.

It is beyond the usual sense of ‘knowledge’.

So what is ‘knowing’ Godliness…?  It is wisdom [chochmah] - ‘knowing not by discovery, but how it is unto itself’.  There are no parameters and definitions.  It is known by direct connect.

Eternality in the created entities does not mean that any particular creation should last forever… since it is a presence in time and space it by definition is dissipating…

By contrast a soul/neshamah does not have this limitation.  It is eternal.  It is God’s representative in the human form…

Creation consists of separate items and creations.  The will of the creator maintains them, while they continually dissipate.

They are eternal in their temporary status.   They dissipate, but they persist.

A Godly creation does not have a beginning point.

Ownership cannot be defined on a worldly basis.  This means it has ‘no beginning’ - it is not based on worldly circumstance.

Essence means the world is ‘not self defining’.

Essence defies definition.

And the world represents something of a revelation of essence.  In the world are found phenomena, like the conservation of matter and energy, that point to essence.

Essence has no beginning and no end.

In the world you cannot create an essence.  You can demonstrate and approximate it.

On the Godly level essence can be created.

Essence is present in the world, but it is not a worldly presence.

And what is a revelation from the essence?  There is a human spirit that does not end.  And that furnishes his world.
