Everything needs a root. And this is what relates it to the Godly reality.

From the concept alone will not come midot/emotions. So too with Godliness. One needs to comprehend and apprehend and reflect on it for emotions to be aroused. But from the chochmah stage of seeing Godliness alone, he will not be aroused to love and awe...

We are focused on the reality, not on the human reaction. On the human level a person can get excited about things that don't mean anything to him at all. Sechel/mind is the real human element.

Sechel is not cold and objective. It is a soul expression – a life element. The sechel brings this reality to the forefront and births love and awe. His heart is alive to the truth that the sechel sees.

A human being is life in a body. Not a living body.

The sechel/mind dresses itself in the body – all the way down to the hand and the foot...!

Sechel is too close to the soul to result in emotions/midot. It is like the ray of the sun within the sun – it is for internal consumption. The life has to spread to reach the heart. This is the way it reaches us. This is by means of comprehension and reflection. I can walk on the world not because it is solid, but because I was invited to do so...

I want to be on earth because this is where He is manifest. 'I made the earth and I made man upon it' – says God. Why 'upon it'? This is because He gave man reality. My full reality on earth.

Sechel/mind is a soul statement. It is inherent. It precedes encounter.

In the sunlight you can see across the street. That is just a practical element. But then there is 'day'. The day is a complete transformation. Visibility becomes the reality of the world. What effects this? It is not the light that makes the transformation, it is the presence of the sun itself...! Within that is the chochmah and binah.

During Exodus He split the sea... but we are not talking of the wonders. We are talking of the Godly phenomenon. That is a real recognition. Standing looking at the power makes you a separate entity.

We do not engage in 'hero worship', even regarding God! Our point is not that He is able to hold the earth, but rather getting a sense of the Godly participation in creation. When He does something it is not a show of power, but rather a show of relationship and meaning...

The human being is a full fledged presence. He walks on the entire earth. He always relates to the total reality. He himself has a sense of reality. For him reality is based on his intellect, not on his experience. He knows there is a Creator who precedes the world.

He doesn't know the Creator, by proof or encounter. He knows Him prior to the beginning of his intellect. A man cannot be an uninvited guest. He wants to be an invited guest. This is the human reality, not just etiquette. The soul is real. It is not based on experiential feedback! This is the meaning of 'Godly phenomenon'. In our lives we call it a human phenomenon.

With this knowledge you see the Godly welcoming and calling that He is extending to His creations...

The Godly element is sense in chochmah, but in binah you begin to experience it and you can meditate/misbonen on it and bring out the reaction/emotion that is part of this. You are not a bystander. You are the real thing.

In the morning I wake up 'cos I was awakened, by the King of kings.

We have to perceive reality (not just how things are supported).

The human reality is infinitely superior to the physical reality.

There is the light of the sun. And then there is the light of the sun, within the sun. infinity. Yet both are called or/light. Then there is the sun itself. It is in a different category. It provides not just for light to see everything, it is everything. Binah brings out that everything is Godliness/elokus, that's what midos/emotions are – the love and awe of God...

There was a question from one of the guys. He asked about the source. What is the difference between the source and what it supports...? Is it just a structural relationship, like the floor rests on the beams...? The Rambam says, the basis of knowledge is to know there is a 'Source of all sources...' this means, 'things are there before they are there...!' Mind/sechel provides for emotions, and thus they have a certain fundamental presence... they thus get an element of 'they should be there...'

This is the insight of sechel/mind, which it has because the soul/nefesh is that truth.

So makor/source – and ulimately the earth is suspended in nothing – 'it is where it has to be'. Where He wants it to be. That is the source.

Binah is a close source, and chochmah is a distant source. Both relate to the reality.

Thus we say, “you don't train children, you teach them. Training is taking them away from their 'center of gravity', away from their sechel...”

“Being a Participant is Something Phenomenal” p:55

AyinBase / Ayin Beis with R' Paltiel Sunday 30 Adar I, 5774

Understanding is strictly a human faculty. Animals can also see 1+1 as 2 ones. But only humans can grasp 1+1 as two.

A computer returns 2 when you put in 1+1, but it has no concept of 2.

We are learing that understanding brings about the birth of emotions/midos. If understanding is just physical, there is no emotional content.

Really 'two' is a very deep concept.

To conceptualize two there have to be 2 factors present. The source/provision and the result/recipient.

You are sure if you have one you could have two. The assumption that there could be two is based on 'the One who provided for the first one could equally provide for two and he wants two...'

Nothing is in the world inadvertently... if it is there, it means it was provided for intentionally. This is like inviting people to your home. It is your heart and mind that is involved...

The makor/source on the higher level is chochmah and binah. Together these 2 provide the person with a sense that 'there is a reality'. Chochmah is the distant source, and binah brings it down to your presence. It says, 'not only is there a truth, but you are a fully fledge participant in it...'

Only hasaga/understanding will create midot/emotions. This is binah saying, 'not only is this true, but you are part of it'. And this will automatically arouse love and fear. Because this is being a participant is something phenomenal. It is awesome and extremely attractive and meaningful.

When you think about life. And think into it. You will readily see that life is eternal. Yes, life is eternal, but he needs to misbonen/reflect on it till it affects his emotions, and he feels respect and awe for the eternity, here in this life...! This is internal and cannot be presented.

Any leaning to chesed or gevurah (love and fear) is only due to comprehending the matter, not due to just having the concept. That's why in binah there is already an incorporation of the midot/emotions.
