We are pointing out a challenging concept. We are saying that there is an essential effect that is the same thing wherever it is. It does not delegate. It is just there. So when it is revealed and sensed at a higher level it is exactly the same.

And yet there is a difference between different levels.

The inner level of chochmah/wisdom is the very same as the inner element of atik.

We can observe a panorama in an instant because we are privy to its inner reality. We are privy to the truth behind the scene. This is like chochmah/wisdom – we see not what is seen, but what is shown to us – we are part of that reality.

So essential reality is manifest on different levels. It remains exactly the same, but with different presentations.

Halachot give us directions in how to conduct ourselves in this world. They are enclothed in the world – they relate to our worldly setting – being a soul in a body in the world. This is essence reality in a lower level.

The influence from kisses is much higher than that of the physical union, which is essential. So the reflection is superior to the essence.

This is a difficult statement. A reflection is only a reflection of the thing itself. An essence is where you have the real thing. So to say that a high reflection no matter its height is superior to an essence is tough to say...

The soul of the person is not just enlivening the body, it is giving of it, itself – life itself. As the result of his soul a person knows things that his soul knows.

We explained this by saying in fact in this reflection there is a sense of essence greater than that found in essence/mahus.

Chassidus explains that sechel (mind) is infinitely superior to midot (emotions)... Why? Because here we mean inner sechel/mind, not knowledge gained by experience and experimentation.

Chochmah/wisdom is like sight in that it provides a sense of the reality of the world.

In an instant we can see a whole panorama. It is not cumulative. The whole scene is grasped in a moment... This is unlimited knowledge in a moment. This is because in sight we are observing not the detail, but the reality behind it. God says it is there and we see it.

We are looking at how souls are superior to angels. Souls are rooted in essence. They are birthed by physical unions – ie the very presence itself.

The angels by contrast are birthed from a more spiritual union – that of kisses. It is higher, but less essential...

And then in this discourse we went on to ask, 'so why are souls longing for kisses...?'

The kisses are a reflection of higher sphirot – chochmah and bina (which sense their source)... and so the light from there, though only a reflection, is still superior to that of the essence of the lower level...

A home is something representative of the essence... and in the home there arel all kinds of furnishings... they are like the practical necessities. So you may think the furnishings are on a lower level, but really a table in a home has a different significance from a table in the street. The essential element of the house devolves also onto the furnishings.

So too the kisses, which are from a higher level.

We are looking at the difference between souls and angels. And how each originates... and the difference between lower and higher unions...

Souls are formed from lower, more essential unions. While angels originate from a higher union – that of kisses... a union that is less essential.

Because souls have essence, they are the only ones capable of drawing down essence itself...

And the discourse then asked, 'if the above is true, why then do the souls request kisses of His mouth? Why do they long for this revelation/union?'

So the principle is that the kiss is from a higher level than physicality.

The kisses are present in chochmah and binah and the physicality is from the lower sphirot...

The kisses come from the level of chochmah and binah, that sense purpose (kavanah) which provides a basis for everything else.

Only the intellect can get a sense of the total reality... and only the element of 'intent (kavanah)' initiates the reality... and only chochmah relates to this.

When looking to destroy Sodom and Gemora, God said to Himself, 'will I do this thing without telling Abraham...?'

The medrash says, 'God gave the world to Abraham' based on the fact that He didn't want to conceal the destruction from him. This is like a king who gives rulership to his son... and the son says, 'if you don't give me the throne how will people know you have special affection to me...?'

So too Abraham says to God, 'if you do not give me the place of the Temple you have not given me anything...' and then God gave everything that he requested...

So what does it mean that the world was given to Abraham. And what is the meaning of his request for the place of the temple? And reason that he says, 'nothing matters unless you give me that'?

And why does he say, “if You give me that place You have given me everything!”

To understand this we need to reexamine the special status of souls. They are the result of a physical union, which is an essential download from essence. Angels by contrast are the result of a spiritual union (the union of kisses), which results in an 'external' download – the element of reflection (ha-arah).

This is a revolutionary presentation due to our prejudice about what reality is... What we need to bring to consciousness is that although we see the health of the body and functional elements as paramount, the absolute truth is way above that – the will to live is the essence of the human being... all else is derived from that.

There is a positive will to live that is beyond alleviation of discomfort, or the seeking of temporal gain.

How do you draw from that? This is a force in the source of man...

Angels are superior to human souls due to their intelligence and faculties, but they don't compare to souls in terms of real representation of Godliness... The human soul has essence. Angels lack a sense of reality.

We human beings have all kinds of capabilities. The hand has great dexterity... The hand is directed by the mind... but the hand is not really alive. It is the ratzon/will that is in the mind is in the hand too – this same life element is is the mind and is in the hand... A man is not a robot. He has life 'through and through'.

This is a union of essence.

The souls request kisses from God. But according what we said before, that kisses are only a reflection (not essence) and the souls are rooted in essence, why do they want kisses? They are from a level that is much superior to that of kisses!

And the answer is that the kisses are from a level higher than physical.
