Faith is affected by the soul’s connection - a deep source that is telling the soul what it sees [mazlei chazei] - it is informing the soul about something deeper that it…

Faith is based in this deep insight.

The Rebbe is saying that the surrounding influence cannot be fully unclothed into the local or inner levels.  It is too supreme.  Nonetheless a reflection [ha’arah] or effect of this revelation is present and effective and sensed to some extent.

This reflection [ha’arah] is the effect without having a grasp of the origin.  It is the knowing that this world is encompassed by Godliness - that lifts the world to a new level.

In these pages the Rebbe has been explaining the effect of the surrounding level on the inner level [makif on the pnimi].

There is an aspect to the soul, every jewish soul constantly has it - the continuous desire to cleave to Godliness.

This is inherent.  This is not acquired by meditation.  It precedes any mind level - it is inherent in the soul.

It is irrespective of education - the illiterate simpleton has it too…

This is called emunahy [faith].

Sight and breathing are effortless and constant.  This experience of a constant experience [which is a kind of anomaly] is indicative of faith [emunah].

Usually sight is a metaphor for chochmah [wisdom].

It is our experience - we can close our eyes - and yet it is constant.

So the experience of sight is that which if beyond what we can fully identify.  So too with faith [emunah].

It surrounds us.  It is beyond us.  Yet we experience it.  There is a desire in the soul which is an absolute constant…

We are given an experience from a higher Source…

The real experience of life is not that we are alive, but that God wants us to live.  This trumps our own personal desire to live.

And the faith is rooted in the reality that is behind it.

Faith sees the truth of Godliness.

Creations do not recognize their source.  They have free choice.

The humility [bitul] is an imperative and it is what enables the creation to receive Godly vitality.

Humility [bitul] is effective to the point that one receives vitality from Godliness [chayut mi’elokus].

There is not limit to the depth of vitality from Godliness [chayut mi’elokus].  It is from a source that precedes everything.

It is outside worldly definition.

How do we relate to it?  We are merely recipients of it.  This is contrary to our self-perception of being ‘knowers’ or experienced or worldly.

If we have this humble stance then we can receive vitally from Godliness.  We can have Godliness as part of our being.  A vitality that does not dissipate.

Worldly vitally is basically physicality and being effective in worldly terms.

Soul vitality is measured by the extent one can cleave to elokus [Godliness] and how well the concept of elokus [Godliness] settles in one’s mind…

To identify the Godly vitality one needs to discount fully the physical over emphasis and focus in on what, ‘being here, means’.
