We are talking about before the tzimtzum, where there was a projection of what would be revealed in creation. It encompasses what would come later.
It includes everything and surrounds and encompasses everything. This is a helem/hidden level that has a connection to the revealed levels that follow.
So it is not an ohr chadash / new light without a connection to what precedes it.
Everything has one simple message. And that message is contained in the ohr einsof – in the makif of the world. The human being reveals the message of the world. All other creatures together do not reveal it.
It is known that at the level of ohr einsof there are 2 levels. One is the level of 'it arose in His will to emanate' with the projection of what He wants to reveal and the second is the level that is above the arousal of His will.
All readily recognize that the world without a human being is nothing. What is so different about human beings? How do they change everything? Everything in the world exists to support its existence. Animals are preoccupied with survival.
Only the human being with sechel that seeks significance, and asks 'what does being here represent, beyond my ability to secure my survival and comfort?' This question and significance is the independent truth that the human beings embody.
Similarly there is the ohr einsof that is before the tzimtzum/contraction, and one asks, 'what is it all about?' It is enriching the creation. But why? Due to the truth that is above this level – the truth as it exists as an absolute reality.
There is an element of truth in the whole chain of creation / seder hishtalshalut. The question, 'what's it all about?' is a statement that there is a reality that is above creation. This reality cannot be grasped, only revealed.
