The
lights have no element of definition. They are from ohr ein sof –
infinity and those have no identifiable elements.
The
Creator draws a narrow line of light from the superior light into the
lower realms.
To
illustrate the principle of ohr/light we think of a man in his home.
The home is fully imbued with his presence.
For
there to be light, there has to be an essence. And essence is
fundamental – it is not due to any circumstance. A man has a home
not just for protection. A certain reality comes with it. The
reality is that his presence in the world is not just practical. His
presence is real.
You
have a name not a number. Your parents gave it to you. You have a
primary presence. You are not sequential. God addresses you
directly. If you are the middle child you have a name, you are not
'number two' or 'number seven'.
This
element of light/ohr continues through the full range of human
activity... eating... walking... talking... There is a life element
in all levels of existence. This light originates in the infinite
light. In the light of essence itself. Wherever you see light, it
points to the original.
What
is life? The life element is that which is invulnerable to physical
damage.
Life
is representative of the truth of the soul itself. It is not
dependent on the place where it is manifest. It does not depend on
the body. And thus under all circumstances it is whole.
The
light goes through a tzimtzum/contraction that allows it to have a
functional focus.
Think
of daylight. It is beyond pushing off darkness. It a fundamental –
it eliminates darkness. In daylight you can hardly anticipate the
darkness of night. Daylight has this fundamental element and yet it
is also functional in that it allows us to see physical objects.
This is due to the tzitzum. If there was an excess of light, we
would not be able to see anything.
