We
have been describing things that defy understanding and that are
contradictory...
We
have been giving metaphors that help us relate to these elements...
things that are a presence and things beyond presence...
The
platform: why is anything there altogether?
These
are the most simple principles, that should not need describing –
they are what we live with from our first days – but in our days,
due to our 'civilization' we miss some fundamentals of human
perception.
And
thus we focus on the fundamentals of the human being.
The
thought process into which we were 'educated' says, 'there is no
fundamental human value and quest! All human quest is the result of
some kind of external circumstance or threat'.
This
creates a horrific state of mind. And when we hear something of
truth and life, we say, 'Ah, but it contradicts all I heard before!'
and the human being becomes a stranger in the world – struggling to
survive and surpass his neighbor.
We
have to see beyond this stupidity. It's not easy. It is contrary to
the truth that we all experience. People decided they are smarter
than God, and will know the origin of everything. And for them to
take that position they need to be stripped of their native
intelligence. And now every man in the street is struggling to
disentangle himself from this presumption and idiocy.
We
have Torah. It talks to us. It expects we will pay attention to
what we learn and find it in our mind and heart to relate to it.
“Contrary
to the idea that all human activity is 'reactive', like that of an
animal, he sees reality and goes on the path of life. Intelligence
guides him. He doesn't have to bump up against each thing to find
his way. This is a Godly intelligence and is not based on
experience.”
Atzilus
is a Godly emanation. How does that provide for the existence of
world? World doesn't understand Godliness. And Godliness does not
understand world. The level of atzilus, somehow, bridges that gap.
This
is our topic. This is our struggle.
The
Rebbe said, 'how do we resolve the seeming contradiction that atzilus
is an emanation of Essence, and on the other hand we say it is a
creation and can thus relate to the world?' And he answers by saying
atzilus possesses both levels.
