The
Rebbe says that a spark that separates from the torch, is of the
same 'material' as the flame, except that the flame is attached to
the torch and the spark is disconnected.
The
flame of the torch illuminates. The spark, by contrast does not
illuminate.
On
the other hand the spark identifies itself, while not illuminating
the surroundings.
Think
of the sun and its light, in contrast to the fire and its light.
Sunlight is of a different quality from light created by a fire. We
sense that the candle constantly works to illuminate. Sunlight by
contrast if effortless. It comes due to the sun 'being there'. This
is the benefit we receive. How it occurs is a separate issue.
Daylight/sunlight
is a transformative light, that experiences no opposition.
“God
said, 'let there be light', and there was light.” This is
indicative of it being beyond process. The verse is saying that
'light' is an actual creation, and is no the result of a sequence of
events. It has no opposition. It is transformative.
This
essential light was subsequently invested into the sun. It was done
so as not to overwhelm the world. This provides us with a worldly
explanation, while the quality of the light remains...
This
light exists only in the presence of the sun. Daylight is
announcing the presence of the sun. The sun was made to 'rule the
day'. It has full jurisdiction.
Sunlight
has the quality of being connected to its source.
