We are making a distinction between the essence of the light and a mere reflection/ha-arah of it...

we are talking of Godly light, not human light, although we have on a 'sample' level things that have a Godly reality.

Our weak power of mind can sense that human life cannot be measured in terms of worldly accomplishments.

This has to do with a Godly presence, that does not need justification.

And this is a way to think of essence of light and a reflection of it...

All that exists and especially the human being is a Godly creation. His will to create does not explain and justify itself. Why did He make the world? He did not need it? It is due to a Godly will – a truth. And thus He created it.

And thus the world is real when it recognizes its Creator...

None the less, He made the world so that it would be functional within a worldly reality. This is called a reflection of that essential reality.

So the souls, before coming down into the world has the insight of essence, but cannot comprehend it...

We all recognize that human life is not measurable in any worldly terms. One second of life is an eternity. It doesn't make sense, but we recognize it.

All this is to explain that at Sinai there was a unique experience of 'seeing what is heard', to which even the souls as they are above are not privy.

This above creation and the higher worlds. This is the moment of 'giving the Torah'.

Sight and hearing were intermingled.
