The
Rebbe has explained that a bracha/blessing does not change anything –
it reveals what is destined to come out. The blessing breaks through
any obstacles and allows the situation to actualize.
The
world is created by His words. The words themselves give
vitality to the creation. Nothing in creation is inadvertent.
Everything needs a Godly power to make it be a give it presence –
and these are the Godly letters that make it be...
So
from the perspective of ohr ein sof (the infinite light) there can be
a change in the letters, till even vinegar can burn like oil... But
what's the point? We know miracles can happen. The point here is
that within a worldly context, it makes sense that oil burns and
water extinguishes fire... but from above there can be a natural view
that water burns... it is not limited by nature.
Bracha/blessing
does not have this element of changing nature. It draws down, 'what
does make sense'.
Prayer,
by contrast is different, it changes nature. This is like curing the
sick and renewing the year – making changes.
