Letters
together make a word. The word has so much light, that the letters
are subsumed in the light.
If
you pull a letter out from a word then the light is reduced.
This
is a way to understand tzimtzum if the 10 hidden sphirot are the
origin of keilim/vessels (the means by which the light is carried)
[an alternative view is that they are the origin of lights –
shoroshei ha-orot].
The
10 hidden lights are all mixed together. Think of a car – it is
born of a concept. In the original concept all the different
elements are intermixed and absorbed.
At
a lower level are the mechanical elements of the car. These are like
the letters of words.
At
this level of keilim you can lose sight of the light. And at that
level you have to define mechanics of the car or word for it to be
effective at the level of world. There is a lack of light since you
step down from the concept into the keilim/vessels.
