We are in the middle of explaining the deeper element of tzelem/form. Which is even deeper than the metaphor of engraved letters. We are saying it is the form of the essence! We are saying there is such a thing as essence coming into a form! This is chochmah. This is Torah.

Mochin/mind is representative of the essence. In contrast to emotions/midot which relate to 'others'.

Essence is the nefesh/soul. Mochin is only a faculty that comes from the soul. But mochin/mind, although it is an emanation, does not lose anything in this transition.

In every faculty. For example 'touch' is the processing of information. Things become real because you experience it. But here is where the truth of the object is lost! You know of it only by its effect on you. Chochmah and sechel in general, does not retranslate and experience what it recognizes. It takes what is given. Totally.

This is like sight versus hearing. Hearing is a translation of the vibration of the ear drum. Sight is a direct recognition. Nothing is lost in the transmission. So too with chochmah. It represents the essence.

Mind is from the essence of the soul. And man is primarily the soul/nefesh and not the body. Nefesh/soul is the presence of the source of life.

Essentially a person is above the world. He is present in the world. But not 'part and parcel' of it.

Chochmah/mind has that sense.

Essence is that which has its own presence. It is not a 'reaction'. If it acts, it is on the basis of its own initiative. Not due to a force from the outside. And this is the difference between a human being and an animal.

The essence is the soul. And this is reflection in the mochin – chochmah, binah and daat...

Torah is the essence of atzilus. Therefore the giving of the Torah is a revelation of the essence of atzilus. That's why it is call the tzelem/form.

Essence is like the mochin/mind. Essence has a full presence within itself. Its presence is not defined by its outside effect.

The basic principle is that 'there is a first Being'. Things don't come from nothing. They come from Him. He is essence. Since all was created by Him (contrary to an evolution model), thus there is a Godly truth in everything. This is essence. A Godly element does not have to maintain itself. In contrast to a body which cannot last a moment without needing to be replenished.

There is an essential truth in the reality of the world. 'If He does not build the house then the whole effort of building is to no avial'.

Yes, we do things in a safe manner, but the bottom line of what keeps all going, is the 'He wants it to be'. The Godly presence is the essence.

This is recognized in the mochin/mind of each level. It is the recognition of 'who I am and what I am here for'.

Before man was made the world was insignificant. Man brings an essential presence into the world. Why? Because he comes with mochin/mind.

The world is opposite to this. It is a composite. It is no the base of 'time and space'. That's why we say, knowledge that has not been acquired is not knowledge.
