His soul is within me... Neshamo bi... |
Page 50 – about 9 lines from the end of the page (line starts: maskil...)
There is a level of mentorship where the mashpiah/mentor makes the mushpah/mentee able to develop new sechel/mind. We explained that what the mentor does is to dig deeply into the mentor to reveal his own (the mentees) sechel/mind. This is not a new creation.
In the case of birth it is a piece of the father that becomes the son!
In the mentorship of spirit, the mentor allows the mentee to open up to his own soul.
The rebbe said, 'his soul (the Frediker Rebbe) is within me' – this is not hashpah of sechel, this is of a different kind.
The basis of hashpaa sichli / mentorship of mind, is the commonality – the universal aspect of the sechel.
But what is the basis for the other kind of hashpaa. There has to be something in the mashpia/mentor/father, where the cognizance of that is the enticement for the creation of another etzem/essence. 'What makes the father conceive of creating a son, who will be independent?' There is a misconception that children are property of the parents. Some think you can replace children with a pet – a plaything, something to enjoy! As kids get older some parents feel, 'all he wants is my money!'
but we are speaking about real people! The relationship to the children reflects our human and soul nature. It is the middah of malchus that is the basis of fatherhood.
What is malchus. Our narrow concept is, 'the king rules'. Really malchus is the sense in the soul of man that the truth that the soul represents is an absolute truth. It is not true by virtue of existing and acting. It is true at the level of ein/nothing. We gave the example of a 'man is a king in his own home'. It is beyond ownership of the property in his home – and beyond the function of all the things in his house. Also between the rav/teacher and student – there is a practical level of their relationship. But there is a level beyond that – the very space of the home, which is inexplicable.
Note: Video and notes end abruptly due to tech issue!
And here are notes after the battery died, from Yehudah:
In principle, it is the midda of malchus that is the impetus for creating another etzm. Malchus is the sense in the nefesh ha adam that this truth is an absolute truth, even before it came into being. Person is a melech in his own home. Things in the house, the person has some connection to them. Same with rav and talmid, there must be some connection between them. Mekabbel must understand the mashpia on some level to have a connection. But then there is another level in the house, the very domain of the house – can’t be explained in any particular manner. Someone that just comes in your house, he is intruding. How? What is he taking? Ownership means its your domain. Way beyond practical, way beyond what I can do with it. It establishes your presence in the world. Hashem gave the world to Adam ha rishon. “Conquer it”. This doesn’t have practical implications. Human being represents the G-dly presence. He makes the statement that the world belongs to Someone, that its not just a big bang.
In world, in everything that exists there is its functionality. Then in addition to its functionality, it occupies space. Space is the fundamental resource of existence. Something that exists but doesn’t occupy space doesn’t have a fundamental presence. I.e. someone invents something. Until time when he actualizes it and brings it into a functional presence, it doesn’t have a real presence; its like an imaginary thing. If you sell a house, you are not selling a piece of yourself, even if you built it. The house has a place in reality separate from you. Building a house in a worldly reality. That is testament to the depth of his soul.
Semi-retarded person that couldn’t relate to owning books; only to taking them out of the library. He could only relate to functionality not to essence. Owning shows on an absolute reality not a functional reality. People who relate only to function are really missing something. Fred Rebbe was adamant that when teach aleph beis, each letter must have a name: kometz aleph ah, rather than just the sounds even though you can teach to read must faster just teaching the sounds. Having a name shows that each letter is a real presence.
