The
Rebbe is identifying a new level. He explains that the animal soul
is realizing that it is right to want only the level of essence,
which is the ultimate reality. And this is in the Godliness of Torah
and mitzvoth. How is this different from the Godliness of the world?
The
world is manifestly a Godly creation.
The
Godliness of Torah and mitzvoth is different. The Godliness of the
world enhances and becomes part of the world – to the extent that
it is possible to think of the world as a separate entity.
Torah
and mitzvoth are when Hashem came down to the world and said, 'I want
to be here with you, and that will be possible if you do this and
this...'
Torah
and mitzvoth cannot be understood from a worldly perspective. They
do not enhance the world... they are not for the sake of making the
world a better place to live...
So
this is the goal of the soul coming down into the world – to purify
and perfect the animal soul... So this is not just having the animal
soul co-operate, but actually desire service of God...!
