The animal soul is in essence interested only in worldly involvement... only in something that it can experience. The concept of 'good and bad' is not understood for itself. It is only 'bad' if you get caught. The absence of 'true good' does not bother him at all.

For the animal soul, wealth gained by theft means, 'I have everything I need'. But after he undergoes purification he says, 'yes, I have the money, but I am really poor'.

My grandfather was R' Yisroel Neveler. He was a teacher. He was very loving and very tough. He saw how one boy was trying to share a book with another and the one with the book was pushing him away.

Good boys/children can be oblivious of their real sechel/mind. The animal soul needs to be raised to perceive reality and know you are not raising a family for self aggrandizement, but rather to glory God's name...

The point is that the animal soul can come to appreciate this higher level...

Till you see your whole personal presence is due to the Godly presence. The animal soul doesn't easily follow along...

And the purification process starts in total darkness. And the progress elicits a response from above.
