We are looking at how the animal soul recognizes the Godliness in the world and then Godliness per se, till it says the real truth is not in Godliness of the world, but in Essence, that was given at the giving of the Torah.

The torah is performed in the world, but is not dressed in the world.

The goal of the Godly soul coming down into the world, is to bring the animal soul to a state of perfection – a recognition of the reality of life itself... life itself, not the experience of life!

[the video below concerns the soldier's motivation; and the relationship between a soldier and the Rebbe - for the context regarding our class see notes below or the video above...]

The Godly soul comes down into a body, and goes through work of seeing through it... but that is not needed, since you could put this soul anywhere and it would get to the Godly essence... it does not need to be tested....

Rather the Godly soul comes down to do its work in the world to purify the animal soul. This is its mission.

And although the Godly soul needs not purification, by means of its work in the world it has the reward of rising higher.

A soldier goes to war. He has put his life aside for his king and country. He fights bravely and his life is lost. After the war is won there is a parade. Would he regret being at the parade or does he take pride in his contribution to this victory...?

Think of a soldier under fire. He stands and prepares to return fire. He does not flee. He raises he weapon and aims. Taking aim is very challenging and demands concentration and presence of mind. How does he do this? If he is aware of the danger he will fail. He is standing because he is protecting his king, not to protect himself. He is aware of a greater value in his life than having lived.

9/11 involved a third plane that never reached its target. The passengers on the plane found out what had happened at the Twin Towers and what was planned. They stormed the cockpit. They did it not to save their lives. Were they in despair or proud? They were acting for a higher purpose.
