“Light Beyond Grasp” p:72(18)

AyinBase / Ayin Beis with R' Paltiel, 22 Tevet 5775

At about midway into the page – (line begins: 'she-hare hu...') For text see below.

We are looking at 2 metaphors for the dressing of light in vessels.

We had the example of water in a colored glass.

And the color of the water or light is unchanged since they remain in their original simplicity.

Water is clear. It reflects the color of the vessel.

This is like light taking on the color of the glass through which it passes...

The function of the sun is to give light. When it shines through a colored glass it has a different appearance. This is being clothed in the vessel, without being grasped by the vessel.

The light has an essential presence and for this reason cannot be grasped by the vessel.

However a person acts, he is never fully encompassed and grasped by the act.

Sight is wisdom on a physical level. It seems to happen without any action or input from our side... The lack of contribution from us, means that you are relating to the truth as it is, as opposed to the way that 'it makes sense to me'.

Yet there too, there is a vessel. We are capable of seeing and relating objectively (seeing how things are in truth) due to having a soul that is at that level of limitlessness... But we don't see with the soul. We see with the eyes, which have their limitations. The faculty of the soul is concentrated through a narrow path-way – the pupil of the eye. Yet in essence it is not limited at all...!

We look in one direction at a time, yet we have the sense of the reality all around us...
