The Rebbe is making a
distinction between the 'parsa' (curtain) and the tzimtzum. Both are
a means to enable the Godly light to descend and relate to the
worldly presence... Godliness is primary – a presence that is not
the result of any kind of activity – it is beyond understanding and
grasp.
Tzimzum involves a
removal of the light which is then re-introduced. So the reality of
the light is removed but the message remains. In parsa the reality
of the light 'takes up residency'.
