starts, 'lehavin davar...') For text, see link top right of the blog.
And picture below.
A
student asked, 'What does the Rebbe want me to know?'
The
Rabbi answered : “He doesn't want you to know anything. He wants
you to be part of something. Like this morning – he wants you to
recognize and participate. This is beyond knowing”.
The
Rebbe is teaching us. And the student asked at the start of class,
'What does the Rebbe want us to know?' The Rebbe wants us to
recognize and be fully involved in the local light (ohr memale) that
will expose you to the higher light (ohr sovev), which is where the
recognition will occur. This is beyond process. The whole effort of
the material is 'to get your gut involved in it'. Not to know it at
arm's length.
This
is a new category – a new revelation of chassidus. There are
phrases here in AyinBase, not found elsewhere. This is why, if any
place it is necessary to have the Rebbe sit with you and teach you,
here in AyinBase it is imperative. You must recognize that the Rebbe
is teaching you.
The
Rebbe is teaching you something that cannot be known. You have to
listen with all your heart till you say, “aah if you see it, then I
see it too”.
In
the essence of the light there is no knowledge or grasp. Really in
Essence there is no light – it is just that He chooses that there
come forth light. Because it is His will, that He should be in the
form of light, thus there is the replication of atzmus. And so this
light is in a state of total cleaving to essence.
And
that light too is beyond grasp...
It
is light that is not light. It is essence in a form of light...
this
is the principle that is expressed, 've lo yedayti hataam' / 'and I
don't know the reason'. In the gemara a sage on presentation of a
halacha/law sometimes says, 'and I don't know the reason'. This is
knowledge beyond knowledge.
This
brings us face-to-face with the fact that when you deal with real
Torah and soul knowledge is is not derived from experience or
experiment. It is from truth, from which you draw a trickle that can
be 'known'.
There
are levels that you can know. And it is imperative to know what you
can know. It is only by knowing them that you can appreciate that
which you don't know.
27min,
23rd seconds into the video - 4th line from the
end of the page. It is not known and He does not make Himself known
– this is indicating a level beyond knowledge.
We
have a useful metaphor for the concept of essence. And there is
truth to this metaphor. We understand instantaneously, that if you
have a guest at your table and then you serve him and depart, then
the whole purpose of the visit is missing. It is not just that the
guest is left alone with his food. The element that is missing has
no substitute, but for the presence of the host.
What
is so special about the host. G-d made a rich world with huge
variety. He did it in 5.5 days. And if you picture this world,
before man was placed on it... it would be meaningless. The presence
of one human being changed the whole scene. What happened? The
Torah answers, 'Adam is a representation of Essence'. G-d made
Himself present in the world in the form of a human being...!
41
minutes into the video. What is the similarity between the human
being and G-d. The human being has the depth of presence and
reality, that it cannot be asked, what is his contribution? His very
presence is the contribution. He doesn't have to do anything. Why?
Because he has that kind of a soul, that he knows only Him/Hashem.
Man is the knowledge that G-d is one! With this knowledge he can
eat and sleep etc... without this; 'don't torture me'!
First
there is absolute unity. I have to see that the Host is also there.
Even if he's just there. And I don't interact with him. And i'm
just eating the meal, I have to know that he is there. The human
being has this essence principle. This is why Israel is distinct
from all the other nations of the world. The Jews relate only to the
absolute reality and won't go ahead without Him.
Anything
that can be know is not full unity/yachid.
Essence
is yachid/union not echad/one.
The
principle of knowledge is not applicable to this.
knowledge/yediah
has 2 levels. 1. an identifiable knowledge and 2. chakim, that are
known without knowledge.
We
sense how our knowledge is base in the soul. In the soul it is
intrinsic and beyond process. For
us acquired knowledge is valid. The soul has real knowledge and it
is not acquired.
The
2 levels of knowledge mentioned above refer to direct and indirect
knowledge. Essence is not at all in the level of knowledge... He is
beyond both of these.
